How to Write Review Articles

December 7th, 2007 GlennP

Just got another concern from an editor today. He asked whether to approve or disapprove an article as he cannot figure out if it is already promotional or not… why? Because it is a review of a company…

I admit it is really hard for someone to determine that as the borderline of a review article for being promotional is too thin… most review articles are actually written by the company to promote their product and service but in a third person point of view or customer point of view but if you read carefully you can never see anything bad or complains mentioned… no rants or etc…

Now, how to write review articles properly?

First create a proper introduction… let the reader know that you are writing a review for a certain company or product and why and what is it for the reader, why should they read it in the first place! Your introduction should be clean and should not talk anything about the company’s business or products.. If you can and only if you can get away from mentioning the company’s name in your introduction then try it…

Next, divide your article to three sections. 1) The PROS and 2) The CONS. And then your personal opinion as your closing paragraph.

Remember, you are writing a review… why should you write only the good stuff? Every company should have an area to improve, even Google has some…

Stop mentioning the company’s name too much. Mention the name of the company only and only if needed. If you mention the company name in almost all paragraphs then your article will look as if a SPAM article at first look (not reading it).

The bottom line is always keep in mind… no body will approve or read a promotional article mainly because it lacks quality information.
